Quill is built to be private by design. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your data — no analytics, no tracking, no servers, no accounts. Every writing tool runs locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in AI (Gemini Nano).

The short version

No backend servers. Quill has no infrastructure of its own — your text never leaves your device to be processed.
No personal data collection. We don't see the text you select, your results, the sites you visit, or anything you type.
No analytics or tracking. No event logging, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no user profiling.
No accounts required. Install and use immediately — there is no sign-up.
100% on-device AI. Rewriting, proofreading, summarizing and every other tool run through Gemini Nano on your machine.

How Quill works with your text

Quill only acts on text you choose. When you select text and run a tool — from the right-click Quill menu, the optional floating pill, or by pasting into the side panel — that text is sent to Chrome's on-device AI and the result is shown to you. Quill does not read, store, or transmit page content in the background, and it never watches what you type.

To make this possible, the extension's content script runs on pages so it can read your current selection and draw the results panel. It activates only when you invoke a Quill action.

What is stored, and where

Quill stores the following locally on your device only, using Chrome's storage.local API:

Your theme preference (Glass, Light, or Dark)
Whether the floating pill is enabled
Any custom tones you create (name and instruction text) — Pro
Sites you've chosen to disable Quill on
Which on-device AI engines are available on your machine (to grey out unusable tools)
Your hourly usage count on the free plan, and your Pro status

The text you rewrite, proofread or summarize is not stored — it's processed and shown, then discarded. None of the data above is sent to any server or accessible to us or any third party.

Network requests Quill makes

Gemini Nano runs offline. The core features make no network requests — Quill doesn't even need the internet to rewrite, proofread or summarize.
Pro license validation (only if you buy Pro): When you activate a license key, Quill sends that key to LemonSqueezy (api.lemonsqueezy.com) to verify it. This is the only external request Quill can make, it happens only when you activate or check a license, and it contains nothing about your text or browsing.
No other requests. No analytics, no tracking pixels, no telemetry, no phone-home.

Payments (Pro)

Quill Pro is sold through LemonSqueezy, our merchant of record. If you purchase Pro, your payment details are handled entirely by LemonSqueezy — Quill never sees or stores your card information. Your license key is kept locally and used only for validation.

Gemini Nano (Chrome's built-in AI)

Quill uses Chrome's Writing Assistance APIs (Rewriter, Proofreader, Summarizer, Writer) and the Prompt API to access Gemini Nano, Google's on-device language model. Gemini Nano runs locally on your machine within Chrome's sandbox and does not send your text to Google's servers to produce results. See Google's Chrome documentation for details on the built-in AI privacy model.

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. We'll notify early-access testers of any material changes.
